Crazy day! Wind in my face and rain from the start. About 30 miles into my ride I met this family of 5, mom, dad, and 9 yr old triplets. ( see the pic ) They asked if I was planning to take the rail trail. I never heard about it. Changed my route and rode this rail trail for over 50 miles and will be on it tomorrow for at least that far. Flat as a board! (see pic) Wind was relentless! Twice wind gusts completely stopped me and I had to unclip to keep from falling over! That's never happened! I stopped to camp at about 65 miles ( was gonna be a short day ) and a lady told me not to camp. There are severe storm warnings tonight with damaging winds here. Tornados about 100 miles north. ( where I came from ) She called a hotel for me about 15 miles further and got me the only room left. So, I am holed up in Brandon, MN for the night. Yahoo! What a trip! I am doing fine! Watching it pour the rain down at this time! Marsha, I am gonna enjoy this real bed! Bill, thanks for all the encouraging words! Kaylain, I am being safe! Don,t wanta leave my skin on these terrible MN roads! I don't have enough to fill all the gaps and holes in these things! The highway department here must also be in the tire business! Miss ya all!

    Randy,

Coincidentally, we had a lot of rain and wind in Mineral Wells yesterday, too. However, it didn't compare to your windy experience. Isn't it amazing how many "Good Samaritans' there are in this world. The woman who reserved you a hotel room was a real " Life Saver!"
Did you know the National League defeated the American League in the Major League Baseball All-Star game? They won 3 to 1. Also, Nick Swisher hit 4 homeruns in the All-Star Home Run Derby. What a tremendous
ambassodor he is for baseball and for Parkersburg. Speaking of good-will and Christian ambassadors from Parkersburg, you
made the list. In fact, you were added to the ALL-STAR list as well.
KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE " STEEPLE !"

  3. Hi, Randy,

As I listened to all the rain yesterday in Parkersburg, I thought you were at the head of this storm system. I'm glad you got a bed to sleep in. Your little tent could have been floating somewhere. I'm glad you have found good people out there! See you soon.

    Hello!
I can't imagine riding from my house to yours, let alone, one side of the US to the other side (haha). However, I am not surprised that you are doing an AWESOME job! I check daily to see how you are doing and then have to report to my family. I'm sure your family is missing you & are counting the days until you are home.
    Keep smiling....
